Stacked Breaks (The Golden Hour)

€175.00

365 x 500mm
Archival Pigment / Giclée print
Printed with archival inks on Hahnemuhle Pearl 285gm
Edition No. : 30

Stacked Breaks (The Golden Hour) is a work from my show Compounded Fractures, 2022 at
Hang Tough Contemporary, Dublin.
The piece depicts the release of tension from a pane of glass breaking. There are two layers to the work, the front is the initial break and the back, the same break a 100th of a second later. The title (Stacked Break) references the overlaying of these breaks as well as Monet's Hay Stack paintings. Monet's series helped inform the colour palettes as well as the concept of illustrating the elapsing of time.
The artwork uses the breaking of glass as a visual metaphor for the constant pressures of daily life. Parallels are drawn between our internal mental stresses and the inherent tension within glass, due to the manner of its production.
