During the production of glass the temperature is slowly stepped down within the kiln, allowing for the tension within the glass to stabilise. This is commonly known as the annealing point. Incorrect practice during this process leads to unstable, weak glass that can be susceptible to unexpectedly shatter or explode.
This piece was the first of a new body of work (prior to my solo show Compounded Fractures later in 2022 )that explored this unique characteristic of glass within the context of the human mind, the choices we make, chance, our autonomy and perceived self-governance.
